Peer-mentoring

What is Peer-Mentoring?

Peer-mentoring is a supportive relationship where someone with lived experience offers guidance, encouragement, and practical advice to someone facing similar challenges. A peer-mentor shares their own experiences, providing insight, emotional support, and a sense of understanding that comes from having faced similar struggles. Unlike traditional counselling, peer-mentoring is more about connecting with someone who truly “gets it” and can offer personal support from a place of empathy and shared experience.

The Benefits of Peer-Mentoring

Engaging with a peer-mentor can provide many benefits, including:

  • A sense of connection – Knowing you are not alone in your struggles can bring comfort and reduce feelings of isolation.

  • Practical advice – Peer-mentors can offer practical tips and strategies that have worked for them, helping you navigate difficult situations.

  • Increased confidence – By talking with someone who has overcome similar challenges, you may feel more empowered to take steps towards your own recovery or personal growth.

  • Emotional support – Peer-mentors offer a non-judgmental space where you can be open and honest about your feelings, without fear of criticism.

How We Offer Peer-Mentoring

At V.L.A.D. Outreach, our peer-mentoring service is flexible and can be offered in a way that suits you best—whether online, walk-and-talk, or as visits wherever you're based. This ensures that you can access support in a way that feels comfortable and convenient for you. Everything we provide is free or donation-based, ensuring that cost will never be a barrier to accessing support. The first 6 sessions are free or donation-based, before a multidisciplinary team evaluates circumstances to create an optional bespoke care plan which can extend support for another 6 weeks, addressing specific needs for a fixed donation of £50.
